INDUSTRY'S SMALLEST 256-TAP DIGITAL POTENTIOMETERS FIT IN 3mm x 3mm TDFN

SUNNYVALE, CA-March 29, 2004-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX5417/MAX5418/MAX5419 and MAX5422/MAX5423/MAX5424, the industry's smallest 256-tap, nonvolatile digital potentiometers with on-chip EEPROM in the 3mm x 3mm footprint TDFN package. The on-chip memory enables the devices to operate like mechanical potentiometers by storing the wiper position prior to power down. But, these new ICs offer a significant size reduction compared to mechanical pots. These digital pots are also the industry's first to offer ratiometric and end-to-end temperature coefficients as low as 5ppm/°C and 35ppm/°C, respectively.

These new digital pots save power by requiring less than 1µA in standby and operating from a 2.7V to 5.5V single supply. End-to-end resistances of 50k, 100k, and 200k are available. The MAX5417/MAX5418/MAX5419 use an I2C interface and the MAX5422/MAX5423/MAX5424 use an SPI interface.

Prices start at $1.25 (1000-up, FOB USA). Purchase of I2C components from Maxim Integrated Products, Inc., or one of its sublicensed Associated Companies, conveys a license under the Philips I2C Patent Rights to use these components in an I2C system, provided that the system conforms to the I2C Standard Specification as defined by Philips.

SPI is a trademark of Motorola, Inc.
