SMALLEST TEMPERATURE-REGULATED, LINEAR, 1-CELL Li+ BATTERY CHARGERS WITH 14V INPUT

SUNNYVALE, CA-August 6, 2003-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX1507/MAX1508 complete linear, constant-current/constant-voltage (CC-CV), lithium-ion (Li+) chargers that integrate constant temperature regulation in a tiny 9mm2 footprint. These devices integrate a power MOSFET, a reverse-blocking diode, and a current-sense resistor to minimize the total solution size for charging in hand-held equipment. Applications include cellular phones, PDAs, and digital still cameras (DSCs).

The MAX1507/MAX1508 eliminate the bulky heatsink and thermal management concerns by regulating temperature, current, and voltage. This feature reduces ambient temperature rise and improves product reliability while minimizing charge time and external component sizes. To protect against loosely regulated AC adapters, the MAX1507/MAX1508 are guaranteed to withstand input transients up to 14V.

The operating input voltage range is 4.25V to 7V (with overvoltage protection for inputs up to 14V). The MAX1507/MAX1508 fast-charge at up to 0.8A and include a charge-current monitor and a charge-status indicator. The MAX1507 provides three selectable thermal-regulation setpoints, and the MAX1508 features an AC-adapter detection output (ACOK-bar).

The MAX1507/MAX1508 are available in a space-saving, thermally enhanced, 3mm x 3mm 8-pin TDFN package screened for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Prices start at $2.12 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available to speed designs.
