INDUSTRY'S FIRST INTEGRATED AUDIO CLICK-AND-POP SUPPRESSOR
SUNNYVALE, CA-August 11, 2003-Maxim Integrated Products
(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX9890, the industry's first integrated, low-cost audio click-and-pop suppressor.
The MAX9890 enhances the performance of existing CODEC/
headphone amplifier solutions by suppressing the audible click-and-pop noise commonly present on power and shutdown cycles. The device requires only one additional small 0.1µF capacitor to provide a complete solution. This low-cost, ultra-compact solution is ideal for compact, portable equipment such as notebook PCs, cell phones, portable DVD players, and PDAs.
The MAX9890 is offered in two versions to optimize the audio-click suppression based on the size of the DC-blocking capacitors in use. The MAX9890A is optimized for use with DC-blocking capacitors of up to 100µF and the MAX9890B is optimized for use with DC-blocking capacitors of up to 220µF. The MAX9890 operates over a 2.7V to 5.5V supply range, provides 23dB of click-and-pop suppression, requires only 20µA of supply current, and contributes less than 0.006% THD+N into a 32 load. The device includes ±8kV ESD (Human Body Model) protection circuitry on the outputs.
The MAX9890 is available in tiny 9-pin UCSP (1.5mm x 1.5mm x 0.6mm) and 8-pin TDFN (3mm x 3mm x 0.8mm) packages. The device is specified for operation over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range. Prices for the MAX9890AEBL start at $0.31 (100k-up, FOB USA).
