INDUSTRY'S SMALLEST QUAD BAND, 2.5GHz, 45dB RF POWER AMPLIFIER DETECTOR SAVES 80% BOARD SPACE
SUNNYVALE, CA-November 7, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products
(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX4003 Power Amplifier (PA) detector for GSM/GPRS, CDMA, or TDMA cellular handsets. The input power range extends from -45dBm to 0dBm and is available in an 8-bump chip scale package (UCSP) making this RF PA detector the smallest in the industry.
This device operates in the 100MHz to 2.5GHz frequency range covering the quad band spectrum of 800MHz/900MHz as well as 1.8GHz/1.9GHz signals. The MAX4003 logarithmic amplifier provides a wide measurement range and a superior accuracy for PA detection applications compared with diode-based detector methods.
The UCSP, measuring 1.6mm x 1.6mm, saves 80% board space over the competition. The product is also offered in the 8-pin µMAX package for applications without board-space restrictions.
The MAX4003 output stage delivers a logarithmic slope of 25.5mV/dB over a 45dB input range. This provides a wide dynamic range for the analog-to-digital converter within the baseband chipset, and supports the biasing requirements of a wide array of power amplifiers and PA modules. The MAX4003 has a low-power shutdown mode that reduces power consumption to just 13µA.
Prices for the MAX4003 start at $0.79 (50,000-up, FOB USA).
