3mm x 3mm 3.3V MULTIRATE VCSEL DRIVER PROVIDES SMALLEST TRANSMITTER SOLUTION FOR SFF/SFP MODULES WITH DIGITAL DIAGNOSTICS
Note to Editor: The MAX3741 is the smallest multirate VCSEL driver that meets the requirements for SFF/SFP modules with Digital Diagnostics.
SUNNYVALE, CA-October 21, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ:MXIM) introduces the MAX3741 3.3V, multirate VCSEL driver. With a 3mm x 3mm footprint, this device provides the smallest transmitter solution for SFF/SFP modules. The MAX3741 is ideal for SFP- and SFF-8472-compatible short-wave optical modules. When coupled with a controller IC, the MAX3741 meets all required digital diagnostics and timing requirements.
Operating from 1Gbps to 3.2Gbps, this device can be used in Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and OC-48 modules for short-reach applications. The MAX3741 has a selectable peaking current, making it easy to interface with all VCSELs. Manufactured using Maxim?s second-generation in-house SiGe process, the MAX3741 has a small form factor, ultra-low power consumption, and excellent jitter performance.
Operating from a single 3.3V supply, the MAX3741 has a programmable bias current range of 1mA to 15mA and a modulation current range of 2mA to 15mA. The MAX3741 has edge-speed transition times of only 65ps and generates only 12ps deterministic jitter and 1ps random jitter. The VCSEL driver can be used in common cathode and differential configurations.
Packaged in a 3mm x 3mm 16-pin QFN, the MAX3741 is specified for the operation over the extended temperature range (-40°C to 85°C). Prices start at $6.75 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits are available.
