I2C-COMPATIBLE, 12-CHANNEL, 10-/12-BIT ADCs

Note to Editors: The MAX1136-MAX1139 and MAX1236-MAX1239 represent a milestone in ADCs. They are the smallest 4- and 12-channel, 10- and 12-bit ADCs on the market today. In addition, they offer an I2C-compatible interface. Some of Maxim's competitors (Analog Devices and TI) also offer I2C-compatible ADCs. However, Maxim parts offer increased channel counts, higher throughputs, and internal references in a smaller package.

Maxim offered the industry's first I2C-compatible 12-bit ADC with the MAX127/MAX128. The introduction of MAX1136-MAX1139 and MAX1236-MAX1239 marks Maxim's continued commitment to offer I2C-compatible ADCs. Our latest 4- and 12-channel ADCs represent a 40% and 23% footprint reduction when compared to the previous generation of 4- and 8-channel ADCs, respectively.

SUNNYVALE, CA-May 2, 2002-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1136-MAX1139 and MAX1236-MAX1239. These 94.4ksps 4-/12-channel, 10- and 12-bit ADCs interface directly to I2C-compatible devices without external logic and support interface speeds up to 1.7MHz. Ideal for portable and battery-powered applications, they combine low-power operation (250µA at 94.4ksps), excellent dynamic performance (SINAD > 70dB), and excellent DC accuracy (INL = ±1LSB) in packages as small as an 8-pin µMAX.

The 10-bit MAX1136/MAX1137 and 12-bit MAX1236/MAX1237 combine a 4-channel multiplexer, internal T/H, clock, and reference in an 8-pin µMAX package. For additional channels, the 10-bit MAX1138/MAX1139 and 12-bit MAX1238/MAX1239 offer 12 channels in a 16-pin QSOP package. The MAX1136/MAX1138/ MAX1236/MAX1238 and MAX1137/MAX1139/MAX1237/MAX1239 operate from +3V and +5V supplies, respectively, and consume only 500µA at 94.4ksps. Automatic shutdown between conversions reduces current consumption to 20µA at 10ksps and further reduces supply current to under 0.3µA at data rates of 1ksps or less. The full-scale analog input voltage is determined by an internal reference at 2.048V and 4.096V for the 3V and 5V parts, respectively, or by using an external reference in the 1V to VDD range.

The MAX1138/MAX1139/MAX1238/MAX1239 are available in 16-pin QSOP packages, and the MAX1136/MAX1137/MAX1236/MAX1237 are available in 8-pin µMAX packages in the extended (-40°C to +85°C) temperature range. Prices start at $2.75 (1000-up, FOB USA).
