DUAL 10-BIT 20Msps AND 40Msps ADCs DELIVER OUTSTANDING DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE FOR THE LOWEST POWER
SUNNYVALE, CA-October 26, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products expands the MAX1180 family of dual, low-power, 10-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) with the introduction of three new parts.
The new pin-compatible ADCs are the MAX1183 (40Msps, parallel outputs), MAX1184 (20Msps, parallel outputs), and the MAX1185 (20Msps, multiplexed outputs). The MAX1183 offers an SNR of 59.6dB and an SFDR of 73dB at an input frequency of 20MHz and a sampling frequency of 40Msps, while only consuming 120mW. The MAX1184/MAX1185 offer the same excellent performance at lower speed and power. The MAX1185 reduces the output bus interface by having multiplexed, parallel outputs.
These new converters have the best available performance and power. They are targeted at applications that require wide bandwidth, good linearity, and high dynamic performance at low power. These applications include high-speed I/Q digitization, multichannel IF undersampling, imaging, and instrumentation.
All parts in this family can be operated from a +2.7V to +3.6V analog supply. For maximum interface flexibility, a separate digital supply pin allows output operation from +1.7V to +3.6V.
The parts feature a pin-selectable three-state output data format, which can be set to either straight offset binary or twos complement. Additionally, there are two power-down modes on all the parts. These reduce the power consumption to 2.8mA in sleep mode and 1µA in shutdown mode.
The MAX118x family features a ±1V differential input range and an innovative differential pipelined architecture. Both single-ended and differential input configurations are supported. An integrated, fully differential input T/H amplifier minimizes the requirement for external components while providing high dynamic performance and a full-power bandwidth of greater than 400MHz. The parts provide an on-chip precision +2.048V bandgap reference that may be overdriven with an external reference voltage. This allows for a flexible input range and automatically ensures the correct DC bias level for AC-coupled applications.
The MAX1183/MAX1184/MAX1185 are pin compatible with each other and the rest of the family; this includes the MAX1180 (105Msps), MAX1181 (80Msps), and MAX1182 (60Msps).
The MAX1180 family comes in a space-saving 48-pin TQFP package specified for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Pricing starts at $4.95 (1000-up, FOB USA). An evaluation kit is available.
