1°C ACCURATE SPI-COMPATIBLE TEMPERATURE SENSOR WITH OVERTEMPERATURE ALARMS

SUNNYVALE, CA-October 2, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX6662 digital temperature sensor. Housed in a tiny 8-pin SO, the MAX6662 measures temperature accurately to ±1°C from +20°C to +45°C, ±3°C from -40°C to +125°C, and ±5°C from +125°C to +150°C. It has an internal 12-bit plus sign analog-to-digital converter providing 0.0625°C resolution.

The MAX6662 performs a temperature conversion every 0.5s. Temperature data from the most recent completed conversion is available over the SPI-compatible bus interface and can be read at any time. The SPI-compatible interface operates at speeds up to 10MHz.

When a temperature measurement falls outside the user-programmed high-and low-limit thresholds, the MAX6662 generates an interrupt output on the open-drain ALERT pin. The OVERT comparator output, also equipped with programmable thresholds, can be used to shut down the system when temperature exceeds safe operating levels.

The MAX6662 operates with a supply voltage between 3.0V and 5.5V and an average supply current of 300µA (typ). By pulling the CS pin low, the device can be put into shutdown mode, consuming just 1µA of current. Prices start at $1.37 (1000-up, FOB USA).
