HIGHEST-POWER REGULATED STEP-UP/DOWN CHARGE PUMP DELIVERS GUARANTEED 125mA

SUNNYVALE, CA-August 16, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1595, the first high-power step-up/down charge pump capable of delivering 125mA. The unique fixed-frequency control architecture of the MAX1595 permits step-up/down regulation with only one flying capacitor; no inductor is used. The device’s high 1MHz switching frequency allows the use of small ceramic input and output capacitors. High fixed-frequency switching, combined with a unique control architecture, minimize input and output ripple and make filtering easy in noise-sensitive wireless applications such as cellular phones, smart phones, and PDAs. In shutdown, the MAX1595 completely disconnects the load from the input to maximize battery life. It comes in two packages with different power dissipation ratings and costs, allowing you to optimize output power vs. cost.

The MAX1595 generates either a fixed 3.3V or 5V output from a 1.8V to 5.5V input. The output voltage is regulated to within ±3%. The high-current integrated MOSFET switches allow the regulator to deliver 125mA with only three external ceramic capacitors. The MAX1595 consumes just 220mA of quiescent current, which drops to 0.1mA in logic-controlled shutdown.

The MAX1595EGC-33 and MAX1595EGC-50 are available in a high-power, 12-pin, 4mm x 4mm QFN package (dissipates 1.48W). To save cost in lower-power applications, MAX1595EUA-33 and MAX1595EUA-50 are also available in the standard 8-pin µMAX package (dissipates 0.36W). All parts are screened for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40° C to +85°C). Prices start at $1.43 for the µMAX part, and $1.51 for the QFN part (1000-up, FOB USA, recommended resale). Contact factory for other fixed output voltages from 2.7V to 5.0V.
