2x2 LVDS CROSSPOINT SWITCH GUARANTEES LESS THAN 120ps PEAK-TO-PEAK JITTER
SUNNYVALE, CA-May 11, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX9152 2x2 low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) crosspoint switch. This device includes two LVDS inputs, two LVDS outputs, and two logic inputs that set the internal connections between the LVDS inputs and outputs. The MAX9152 can be programmed to connect any input to any or both outputs, allowing it to be used in all of the following configurations: 2x2 crosspoint switch, 2:1 mux, 1:2 demux, 1:2 splitter, or dual repeater. This flexibility allows the MAX9152 to be used for protection switching in fault-tolerant systems, loopback switching for diagnostics, fanout buffering for clock/data distribution, and signal regeneration for communications over extended distances.
Ultra-low 120ps peak-to-peak jitter ensures reliable communications in high-speed links that are highly sensitive to timing error, especially those incorporating clock-and-data recovery or serializers and deserializers. High-speed switching performance guarantees 800Mbps data rate and less than 50ps skew between channels.
LVDS inputs and outputs conform to the ANSI TIA/EIA-644 standard, guaranteeing the high-speed, low-power, and low-noise performance of LVDS. The LVDS inputs are also designed to accept LVPECL signals directly, and PECL signals with an attenuation network. The LVDS outputs are designed to drive 75 and 100 loads, and feature a selectable 75 /110 differential output resistance to minimize reflections.
The combination of flexible configuration, ultra-low jitter, and LVDS make the MAX9152 ideal for high-speed, low-noise clock-and-data distribution in communications equipment such as cell-phone base stations, DSLAMs, add-drop muxes, digital crossconnects, network switches, and routers.
The MAX9152 is available in 16-pin TSSOP and 16-pin SO packages, and consumes only 109mW while operating from a single +3.3V supply over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range. The MAX9152 in the SO package is a pin-compatible upgrade to the National Semiconductor DS90CP22. Prices start at $4.50 (1000-up, FOB USA).
