INDUSTRY'S FIRST STEP-UP CONVERTERS WITH REVERSE-BATTERY PROTECTION

 
 

SUNNYVALE, CA-February 19, 2001-Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1832–MAX1835, SOT23 step-up DC-DC converters with integrated reverse-battery protection to protect the battery, the converter, and the system if the battery polarity is accidentally reversed. They save cost by integrating this function, accomplished with a built-in switch in the battery input path. They also save space and cost by including a built-in synchronous rectifier, which improves efficiency. They use only 4µA quiescent supply current (<1µA in shutdown).

These devices operate from an input voltage of +1.5V to +5.5V and deliver up to 150mA load current at up to 90% efficiency. The MAX1832 and MAX1834 have adjustable outputs from +2V to +5.5V. The MAX1833 and MAX1835 have fixed +3.3V outputs. In shutdown, the protection switch is closed in the MAX1834/MAX1835 and the output voltage equals the input voltage minus a 0.7V diode drop. When the MAX1832/MAX1833 are in shutdown, the protection switch is open and the input battery can be used as the system backup battery.

All devices are screened for the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C), and prices start at $1.52 (1000-up US recommended resale). The MAX1832EVKIT evaluation kit is available to speed designs.
