MAX6615/MAX6616监视两个温度通道，即监视内部管芯温度和外部温度，也可以监视两路外部温度。温度数据控制PWM输出信号，以调节冷却风扇的转速，系统运行在致冷状态时能够将风扇噪声降至最小，而在功耗增大时还可提供最大制冷效果。通过MAX6615/MAX6616监视风扇的转速输出可检测风扇是否出现故障。如果检测到风扇故障，则触发/FAN_FAIL输出。

2线串行接口采用标准的系统管理总线(SMBus™)，可执行写字节、读字节、发送字节和接收字节命令，以便读取温度数据，并设置报警门限。可编程报警输出产生中断、禁止以及高温关断信号。

MAX6616具有6个GPIO，提供高度的灵活性。除GPIO0外，所有GPIO上电时作为输入端，而GPIO0即可作为输入也可作为输出，通过将PRESET引脚接地或V_CC进行设置。

MAX6616采用24引脚QSOP封装，而MAX6615采用16引脚QSOP封装。这两个器件均采用单电源供电，范围为3.0V至5.5V。工作温度范围为-40°C至+125°C，所消耗的电源电流仅为500µA。
