DS1821可作为独立的温度监视器(具有用户可编程门限)或8位温度传感器(1-Wire®数字接口)。温度监视门限储存在非易失存储器中，因此，DS1821可以在系统单机运行之前进行编程设置。DS1821的工作温度范围为：-55°C至+125°C，在0°C至+85°C范围内提供±1°C的精度。与DS1821的数据通信通过漏极开路DQ引脚实现，该引脚还可用作温度监视器输出。
